About Nisargah

Unlike the traditional chemical fertilizers, organic fertilizers must occur naturally. The organic fertilizers vary based on the nutrient requirements for the farm, but in most cases, the organic fertilizers are comprised of a single ingredient. Organic fertilizers are therefore eco-friendly and that’s why they are preferred in organic and healthy farming. The chief examples of organic fertilizers include fish extracts, plant waste from agriculture, animal waste, treated sewage sludge, and peat. Growing health consciousness, increasing disposable incomes and a surge in government initiatives intended to increase organic farming, are all drivers for the growth of organic food and fertilizer industry. In Kerala, the increasing awareness about contaminated fruits and vegetables from across the borders, the initiatives of the government and even political parties have given a fillip to the organic food products industry, where they use organic fertilizers. Essentially derived from plant materials or animal waste, organic fertilizers have several advantages: they improve the soil texture, allowing it to hold water longer and increase the microbial activities in the soil. Synthetic fertilizers, as we know, deplete the soil of its nutrients, making it unproductive in addition to polluting the environment and ecosystems.

NISARGAH wishes to pursue a sustainable path to food production and consumption through the promotion of organic farming that relies on organic fertilizers for crop nutrient management and plans to produce and market organic fertilizer with the aim to promote healthy living and causing less harm to the environment. So far, the production of organic fertilizers, and the education and awareness on production technology are limited and inadequate. This undoubtedly impedes our progression and transiting to organic agriculture in the country. A quick way to address this challenge is to train our youths who are potential future farmers, extension, and development workers, who could vastly multiply the efforts as training of trainers. We, NISARGAH really appreciate and recognize here the entire organic farmers, everyone who are all in love with Organic fertilizers and farming, professors, technical experts from the various Agriculture Research and Development Centers within the country and globally as well for their great contributions those already provided / are providing at present / are expected be provided in future too.
